Pinacoteca D'Errico Matera, Italy

The Pinacoteca D'errico is a museum located in the city of Matera, Italy. It was established in 1911 after the personal collection of Domenico Ridola was donated to the Italian State (Museo archeologico – National Museum of Matera). The museum is divided into three sections, each dedicated to a specific period in the history of Matera.
The first section of the Pinacoteca D'errico is dedicated to prehistoric and protohistoric periods. It features a collection of artifacts from the Paleolithic, Neolithic, and Bronze Ages, as well as examples of ancient Greek and Roman pottery. The second section focuses on the Middle Ages, with a particular emphasis on the Norman and Swabian periods. This section includes a number of important works of art, such as the famous "Madonna della Bruna" (Baldassare De Caro: Still-Life with Turkey, Fruit and Flying Pigeon/X>, Pinacoteca d'Errico (Matera, Italy)).
The third section of the museum is dedicated to the modern period. It features a collection of paintings from the 16th to the 20th centuries, including works by some of the most famous Italian artists such as Hans Von Aachen, Giovanni Fattori, Vannucci Pietro (Le Perugin), and Gaspare Traversi.

Gaspare Traversi

Gaspare Traversi was an Italian Rococo painter born in Naples around 1722. He trained under Francesco Solimena, one of the most important painters of the time. Traversi is best known for his genre works and can be described as a Neapolitan Hogarth, Steen or Longhi, working in a Caravaggist style (Gaspare Traversi).
His satirical paintings typically depict animated groups of bourgeois protagonists that seem compressed physically into an indoor pictorial space that can barely contain them. Even his religious canvases have foreshortened crowding. Facial expressions are lively and varied; some of the characters, often children, stare at the viewer. Women are often situated in either a foolish or ironic situation, or engage in a pulchritudinous talent, while men leer or participate with other intentions in mind.
