Porta Pia is a historic gate in the Aurelian Walls of Rome, Italy. It was designed by Michelangelo and built between 1561 and 1564 to replace Porta Nomentana, one of the original gates in the walls. The gate is named after Pope Pius IV, who commissioned its construction. |
